One of the most important clothing purchases that you will ever make is undoubtedly your wedding dress. The dress needs to make you feel special, look great and above all make you happy on your big day. But where do you begin?
You may already have in mind the style of wedding dress that you want so here are a few essential things you need to take into consideration so that you can look and feel your best on the big day:
Your Body Shape
Pear – Choose an A line dress which skims over your hips then go for a V neck style to emphasis your slimmer upper body.
Top Heavy – Go for a sweetheart or scoop neck (VERY hot for 2013) that shows the thinnest part of your body but not too much cleavage. Avoid shiny materials around the bust as this will draw more attention to the area.
Apple – Pick a style which emphasizes the waist and then softly flows out into an A Line. Add more detailing in the bodice around the bust or shoulders to balance out your lower body and draw attention more to your face.
Petite – Choose an empire line dress or a style which has a raised waist line to make your legs appear longer. Avoid puffy, meringue style dresses as these will swamp your small frame!
Tall – Keep it simple and chic without adding too much bling. Have a slightly lower waist line so that your leg length doesn’t look out of proportion.
Boyish Figure – As you don’t have curves, choosing a dress that creates the illusion of curves is great for feeling feminine on your special day. Opt for a bias cut dress or go for a full skirt with plenty of detail which can swish around your hips and create soft curves. Also add a little detail (lace, beads, rouching) around the bust if you want to draw attention to this area more.
Skin Tone and Color
The color of your wedding gown will usually depend on the type of skin color you have. If you have dark or olive skin, you can get away with a lighter white wedding dress, however if you are pale, a warmer cream or ivory material will flatter your skin without washing you out or making you look paler.
Wedding Location
The venue and conditions of your wedding are going to have an effect on your dress choice – for example if you’re having a “festival” style reception you won’t want an expensive train which will get dragged through the mud. Or if you’re heading to a tropical location, you will want to try a range of light, up-the-minute wedding dress 2013 styles , not a heavy dress with long sleeves!
Weather
Think about the season in which you are getting married – no one wants to be freezing cold or sweating like a pig on their wedding day, so when you choose your dress think about the usual weather around that time of year. It’s not unheard of for brides to get wedding umbrellas, parasols, or fur shrugs to make sure they are prepared for the weather!
Tips for Buying the Perfect Wedding Dress
Remember to stay practical – you need to be able to move around in your dress. Make sure that you are comfortable – you’ll be wearing the dress all day!

Incorporate part of your wedding theme into the dress design e.g. a brooch which echoes the wedding colors. Try on lots of different styles of dresses before making a decision – even if you’re not sure about how it looks on the hanger – it could look amazing on!
