Nokia denies categorically the forecast of an analyst who had spoken of disappointing sales for the fourth quarter. These statements obviously useful in raising the value of the shares on the Stock Exchange, plunged by 17% in a few days, since there are still no official data on sales of 800 Lumia .
The Finnish manufacturer's first smartphone based on operating system Windows Phone 7.5 has arrived in stores in the United Kingdom and other European countries, including Italy, where it is priced at 499 euros . Just the price was considered too high by analyst James Faucett of Pacific Crest Securities, according to which the Lumia Nokia 800 (and the smallest Lumia 710) did not introduce major new compared to the models already on the market.
For this reason, estimates of sales were reduced from 2 million to 500 thousand units. According to Deutsche Bank , however, Nokia will be able to meet the forecast later this year. James Etheridge, a spokesman for Nokia said:
Based on early data, initial sales of 800 Lumia are the best first week of a Nokia smartphone in the United Kingdom in recent history.
Etheridge refers to the first week, so it is premature to draw conclusions on the sales, but the positive reception in the United Kingdom may indicate a long-term success. An employee of Microsoft UK has published a photo on Twitter confirms that sold out in an Orange shop, the telephone operator that distributes your smartphone on the British market.
