The trial of Jacques Chirac in the case of alleged fictitious jobs for the City of Paris, which had stalled in March, will run from September 5 to 23 before the Paris Criminal Court, said on Monday the 11th president of the chamber, Dominique Pauthe.
The hearings will take place only in the afternoon, from 13:30 every day except Thursday 15 and Friday, September 16.

Initially planned as of March 7, the trial of former president had been returned after it opened due to a question as to constitutionality (QPC), a procedure for challenging the laws to the Constitutional Council.

The issue raised by counsel for a former chief of staff of Jacques Chirac, Rémy Chardon, was to challenge a law extending the statute of limitations for crimes. The QPC was transmitted by the court to the Court of Cassation.

But on May 20, the high court decided not to submit to the Constitutional Council, allowing the trial to resume.

The hearings had been held in March in the absence of the former head of state, but in the presence of most of his nine co-defendants in the case of alleged fictitious jobs for the City of Paris.

The health of Jacques Chirac, 78, and its ability to participate in the trial have already been subject of much speculation.

Protected during his 12 years at the Elysee Palace (1995-2007) by his presidential immunity, Jacques Chirac must answer for acts dating back to early 1990, when he was mayor of Paris.

We refer to justice for "misuse of public funds", "breach of trust" and "illegal taking of interest."He faces ten years in prison and 150,000 euro fine.

The main victim, the City of Paris, had given up to bring a civil compensation agreement after a $ 2.2 million agreement with the UMP and Jacques Chirac.
