Samsung TV with smells based on images seen - Research in the field of television knows no limit: after the full HD and 3D, the next step will add scents to your TV . Researchers at the University of California and the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT) in Japan have developed a portable device capable of emitting up to 10,000 different scents.

The small device can be plugged into the back of a TV and in the future, even when residing in smartphones, to add a third sense, the ' sense of smell , watching television programs. For now it's just a prototype, but the goal is to reduce its size and increase the number of odors "digital".

The main components of the device are the smell pixels , 100 × 100 matrix of tiny microscopic wires connected to the 10,000 tanks containing flavorings. The odors are composed of an aqueous solution which turns into gas when heated by a wire electrical current passes through. The solution is sealed in containers made of silicone elastomers which, when heat and pressure increases, open releasing the scent into the air through a small hole. When the tank is empty, you must purchase a recharge as for printer cartridges.

The researchers performed a test with two flavors and the people who participated in the experiment were able to distinguish the smell spread in the room up to 30 inches apart. Sung Jin, a professor in the Department of nanometer-scale engineering from the University of California, said:

The device instantly generates fragrances and odors corresponding to the images on the screen . For example, if people are eating a pizza, the viewer will feel the smell of pizza from the TV. If a pretty girl walks, you will hear her perfume.

The system should also provide, however, the device lock. But not everyone would feel the smell of a corpse during an investigation conducted by the investigators of CSI.
