Recharge Notebook battery using the keyboard

Technology blog from Bangladesh

Recharge Notebook battery using the keyboard - Researchers at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology have made a very important step towards the realization of devices powered by a thin piezoelectric film that transforms the pressure into electrical energy .

The studies are still in their infancy, but in future it could recharge the battery of a notebook by simply using the keyboard. The key press will in fact be converted into electricity.

Research has shown that the piezoelectric nanomaterials can provide the current needed to power electronic devices, but the realization of these structures is very complex. For now, the team of researchers has succeeded in creating a current of 250 microwatts . The next step will be to boost the value of at least 10 times up to 2.5 milliwatts, so that it can find a commercial application as a battery.
This material can also be used in products other than electronics. You could for example put in running shoes to recharge cell phones, or the technology could be used to convert the pressure of blood in the current food and biomedical devices, such as a pacemaker.

The project, begun in 2006, is still in early stages of research and take at least two or three years for the first commercial products.
