Three Rules For Working with a White Bedroom

Rules are made to be broken, as the saying goes, but they definitely make a great starting point for any interior design project. This quick article will touch on the basics of white bedroom design so that you can get the most out of your simple white space.

1. Make Sure Your Whites Match

This is an important one. White is simple but using it effectively gets harder as you introduce more white elements into your bedroom. White can have tinges of blue, yellow, or green. You can definitely go for different shades of white as long as they are the same “temperature” – blue whites go with blue whites, and so on, but mixing color temperatures rarely has good results. This is hard to do in a bedroom with so many different fabrics but it is much easier when you’re starting from scratch.

2. Layer for Visual Warmth

Unless you’re going for a sleek industrial look, your white bedroom will need some texture. Layering fabrics is a great way to get that texture while also providing literal warmth for winter months. Throws, duvets, pillows – stock up and let your imagination go wild with this one. Even simulated textures like light pinstripes can serve this purpose just fine.

3. Throw in a Little Contrast

Accent colors are so much fun. Choose bold colors for little things like pillow cases, rugs, and even window treatments. If you can limit accent colors to easily removable elements, you will have no trouble switching themes later down the line. We suggest woody tones for more permanent sources of contrast. Headboards are a good candidate. If you get some time, click here to see some fresh options.

Let these little tips serve as inspiration but don’t let them box in your design. If you want a bright pink headboard, go for it. If you’re not a huge fan of textures, let smooth fabrics make your space. The only real rule is the fact that white bedrooms rule!
