Not Your Typical LA Residence

Not Your Typical LA Residence

John Friedman and Alice Kimm of JFAK Architects did a wonderful job on this large and airy family Los Angeles home. The exterior makes an effortless transition to the modern interior, making use of many of the same materials: wood, plaster, steel, and glass.

Voids and screens make the exterior feel light, floating staircases and streamlined fixtures accomplish the same indoors. The open kitchen and living area provides access to a lovely garden, surely lovely arrangement whether soaking up a nice lazy day or entertaining friends under the moonlight.

Bright terrazzo floors and clean walls set the tone for the rest of the LA Residence. The staging is spare and minimalistic, effortlessly drawing attention to the stylish wood elements – everything from the kitchen cabinets to the bathroom vanities really “pop” against such a bright white interior.

Our favorite part of this JFAK Architects creation has to be the glass-enveloped terrace running along the upper levels, the perfect blend of privacy and fresh air freedom. Would you live in the LA Residence – and if so, in which interior design direction would you take it to make it your own?
